Activities

The Activity Clubs within Surrey Scouts are constituted to enable members of the Scout movement to enjoy specific activities in safety with appropriate supervision, viz, caving, mountaineering, shooting, water activities.

These clubs organise a variety of events and meetings, from open evening meetings and “taster days”, to more advanced Club events & instruction.

Programmes of events can be found on the County Website. Many events are affected by external agencies and will be fixed at later dates e.g. flying, and shooting or they may be subject to change.

Key Factsheets are included for most activities; a complete list and other resource materials, is available from the website: www.scouts.org.uk or the Information Centre at Gilwell. Always check for the latest version as they are subject to change.

The Adventurous Activities Permit Scheme is intended to the ensure safety of young people undertaking the activities. Also, that those in charge are competent and appropriate to lead. The scheme is described in factsheets FS120100 to FS120104. Permits are only required for activities such as archery, caving, hill walking, climbing & abseiling and water activities.

Applications for permits should be made on adactpermit form and submitted to an assessor for the activity required. The assessor will be able to assess technical competence, using national governing body evidence where appropriate. The form should then be passed to a commissioner, e.g. District Commissioner, who will issue a permit. A similar scheme operates for Nights-Away experiences and is described in factsheet FS120800.

For advice and guidance on taking young people or adults with Additional Needs on any of the activities listed in this guide please contact the Additional Needs Team via the county office.

If you need advice on any activity, please contact the relevant Adviser (search on Compass – Assessor Search)

Surrey Activities Diary

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
