Woking Explorer Scouts – Wet & Wild in the Sunshine !

Date: 30th Jun 2019 Author: Alistair Tickett

Over 60 Explorer Scouts aged 14 to 18 from Woking together with their leaders spent the last weekend going wet & wild at Woking Scout’s own campsite in Wisley for their last camp of the school year.

During the hot and sunny weekend Explorer Scouts representing Challenger unit from Knaphill, Martian unit from Horsell, the Wey Ahead unit from Pyrford, the Maverick unit based in Westfield and the Phoenix Unit in Byfleet enjoyed a fun packed weekend of activities including a number of water based games such as a 100 feet downhill water slide, wet water crab football, and rounders on wet slippery surfaces as well as being challenged to water balloon fights. After a succulent BBQ on the Saturday, the Explorers ended the day with a campfire before bedding down under the stars which made a change to camping in tents.

This was followed on Sunday with a Hunters game on Wisley common using mobile phone and GPS technology to hunt their prey (the other Explorers) guided by an offsite control room.

After a busy exam term, the camp was aimed as a chill out and relaxing event for the Explorers, and an opportunity for some of the new scouts joining us next term to meet the Explorers from the five units in Woking.”

I want the public to know how Scouting continues to open young people’s eyes to a world of extraordinary promise and possibilities.'
