Beaver Leaders practise #SkillsForLife

Date: 17th Jul 2022 Author: Alistair Tickett

18 Surrey Scouts Beaver Leaders recently came together for a day of being trained in the skills needed to deliver pioneering and backwoods cooking in a way specifically suited to Beaver Scouts.  As well as being given specific projects that could be delivered in a Beaver meeting, they were also given the skills to help prepare for leading the activity.

There were pioneering games and shelter building as well as training in how to use an axe correctly to prepare the wood which was to be used in the backwoods cooking sessions.

The training team had given careful thought to making sure the activities for delivery in a colony meeting were suitable for Beaver attention spans and abilities!  It gave new and established leaders a chance to explore aspects of Scouting that they had not done previously and that will underpin our Surrey focus on delivering a challenging programme.

The course sold out superfast and will be the first of our section specific skills training courses.  It was financially supported by the Surrey Scout Training Trust and the training was delivered by the Surrey Skills Academy.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
