5th Farnham Scouts’ Cathedral Descent

Date: 26th May 2019 Author: Alistair Tickett

5th Farnham Scouts are superbly proud to have been represented by 4 of our members last weekend at the Guildford Cathedral abseil, in aid of Parkinson’s UK. Along with parent helper Steven Dean, the group raised in excess of £1000 by attempting the eye-watering decent of over 160ft.

This achievement demonstrates how their scout promise “To help other people…” remains ever-present in 21st century, and how their adventurous activities training can be fun, but also a “force for good”.

By doing so, all 4 participants are now eligible for their Fundraising activity badge and part of their Personal Challenge award.

Well done scouts – you never cease to amaze us!

Many thanks also to Guildford Diocese for supporting the event.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
