Guildford St George’s Day Parade 2017
It was a glorious sight as Beaver’s Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts and Explorer Scouts from Guildford West and Guildford East Scout Districts paraded up Cathedral Hill with their flags fluttering in the wind.
The parade started at the University of Surrey, which celebrated its 50th Anniversary this year and has supported this event for the last 30 years.
The service which was held to celebrate St George (the patron saint of Scouting) which this year fell on St George’s Day. The scaffold filled Cathedral was able to seat everyone and was reviewed by Gordon Jackson, Mayor of Guildford and Joe Rogerson (County Commissioner). The service was led by he Bishop of Guildford, the Rt Reverend Andrew Watson.
During the service all members renewed their promise which was led by the Assistant District Commissioners (Sections) and the District Commissioner.
This year’s parade was the first for 1st Weyfield Cubs who meet at Weyfield School during school hours: they said that they enjoyed the event and are starting to feel part of their district.
George a Cub Scout from Guildford said it was amazing to see so many flags flying.
