1st Oxshott Scouts Climb for Pudsey

Date: 6th Jan 2018 Author: Scout Websites

1st Oxshott Scouts spent an adventurous Friday evening at the White Spider Climbing Centre in Tolworth including a mass climb in Pudsey Bear style eye bandages to help raise some money for Children in Need 2017.

The Scouts and Explorers tried a variety of routes including the popular auto-belay walls before moving to the bouldering area for an attempt at the tricky traverses. The instructors kept a careful eye on each group as the climbing techniques improved during the session and set more challenging routes for the older scouts to try among the massive selection at White Spider.

The centre gives not only great opportunities to climb the colourful walls, but a chance to try out the responsible job of being safety belay for other scouts. A great activity to finish off an exciting year and good practice for the real thing at Summer Camp in 2018 in the Peak District.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
