Surrey Superstars!

On Sunday May 8th a group of Explorers from 7th Epsom who went to Tanzania, along with their parents attended the Surrey Young Super Stars Award Ceremony at the Guildford Harbour Hotel. The event was organised by Surrey Youth Focus and Haslemere Travel.

They were invited because they had been entered for the category “Fundraising Superstars (Group, 13-19 years) and had, against fierce competition, been selected as winners! They were to be presented with their trophy and certificate by the Queen’s representative, HM Lord Lieutenant of Surrey, Mr Michael More-Molyneux.

After meeting numerous VIPs and being photographed with Mr. Michael More-Molyneux among others, they sat down to the more formal part of the afternoon.

The Explorers were presented with their well-deserved award for raising £24,000.00 and then went to Tanzania and helped build the school that was funded with this money.

The final part of the afternoon was the announcement of the overall winner of “Superstar of the Year” for 2016 and much to their surprise and pleasure 7th Epsom Scouts Tanzania team were the winners and also won an “Adopt an Animal” prize!

The Explorers were then presented to the Mayor of Epsom & Ewell who very kindly received them at short notice and partook in a photoshoot!

I want the public to know how Scouting continues to open young people’s eyes to a world of extraordinary promise and possibilities.'
