On Sunday 21 March, three members of Maverick Explorer Unit, and one adult leader from 1st Knaphill Scout Group, made tandem skydives in aid of PlayPumps International. Ishbel Davis (16), Matt Pike (16), Lex Webb (16) and Stephen Wood all jumped from 13,000 ft strapped to an experienced skydiver for a once in a lifetime experience.
On leaving the plane, falling at speeds of up to 120 miles per hour, they quickly descended to a height of 5,000 ft where the main parachute was deployed. The 8,000 ft plunge had taken around 45 seconds. The remaining 5,000 ft was less eventful, although the Explorers did have the opportunity to steer the parachute in a series of turns.
Safe landings for all four were met with applause from the waiting nervous parents. Matt said after the jump "My head's spinning, it was so crazy, so awesome, and I've lost sense of EVERYTHING!!!"
