The UK Contingent have arrived! 4600 participants from the 116 units that make up the UK contingent have arrived at Hylands Park, the site of the 21st World Jamboree.
The UK Contingent has arrived a day earlier than the other participants so they can be on hand to welcome the world on Friday (27th).
On Friday, the remaining 22,000 participants from 550 troops arrived at the Jamboree site from across the world.
Prince William and the Duke of Kent arrived at the Jamboree site on Saturday. The Royal visit is the highlight of the opening ceremony to the 21st World Scout Jamboree.
The pair landed on the lawn at Hylands House to be greeted by Lord Lieutenant of Essex, Chief Scout Peter Duncan, Chief Executive Derek Twine and British Cabinet Minister Ed Miliband.
At the Opening Ceremony HRH the Duke of Kent read out a special message from The Queen.
"As your patron I am delighted to send my warm good wishes to everyone from near and far attending this impressive celebration.
In April of this year it gave me great pleasure to help mark the Centenary of the Scouting Movement when I reviewed the annual Queen’s Scout parade at Windsor Castle.
The enthusiasm, dedication and commitment that was so clearly on display on that occasion, will, I’m sure, be much in evidence as you gather for your Jamboree today.
On this significant anniversary I send my heartfelt congratulations to you all.
