Woking Cubs Science Day January 2012
Recently, 68 Cubs from all across Woking District met up at 7th Woking Scout Group HQ & incorporating Woking Scouts DHQ for an action packed day, full of Science based fun and games.
There were ten different bases and the themes ranged from learning about building bridges, using pulleys, making Dynamos, using IT and microscopes to discover the world in miniature, the properties of light, acids, alkalis and magnetism. There were also bases where the Cubs built their own water filters and then found out what happens when you mix Vinegar and Bicarbonate of Soda....... Very Messy!
No Cub science day is complete without the demonstrations; Cubs are never disappointed; there are plenty of whizzes, bangs and explosions, complete disbelief with the floating Gyroscopes and huge Fun with the Air Cannons. This year had the added bonus of a local Science teacher, Tom Holloway, whose enthusiasm & passion certainly captivated Cubs.
The day was summed up very succinctly by one young Cub who simply said "Wow! - this is Awesome!!"

These events are not possible if it wasn't for all our Adult volunteers...of which there are never enough. Should you be interested in becoming a volunteer with the Scout Association, click here
