Every four years, the global Scouting community comes together for a World Scout Jamboree. The summer of 2007 saw the UK host the 21st World Scout Jamboree that celebrated the centenary of Scouting under the theme of “One World One Promise”.
During the summer of 2011, 90 Scouts from Surrey joined 40,000 Scouts from almost every country in the world came together for the 22nd World Scout Jamboree. Pictures, stories and videos from the UK Contingent can also be found here.
The 23rd World Scout Jamboree link to will be held in Japan in the summer of 2015 (28 July to 8 August).
The theme for the Jamboree will be “WA” – a spirit of unity. The theme is described in a Kanji Character, and has many meanings. “WA” stands for harmony, unity, friendship and peace. “WA” also means Japan too.
Details of the formation of the UK Contingent have not yet been announced. We hope to have more information by the end of 2012 – including details of the selection of participants for the Surrey Units. Participants will need to be 14 to 18 at the start date of the Jamboree.
In 2019, the 24th World Scout Jamboree will be held in the USA, organised jointly by the Scouts of Canada, Mexico and the USA. Further details of this will not be available until the 23rd World Scout Jamboree closing ceremony!
