 Radio Team and Communications Minimize
[ssrt logo]County Adviser: Bernard Moore - Tel 01306 883190.

Radio Team: The Surrey Scout Radio Team is a communications team made up of Explorer Scouts and Scout Network members from around the Surrey County. The Team runs training programmes at various levels for all its members, from Communicator Proficiency Badge courses for Scout and Explorers to the more advanced Net Operator courses for older Explorer Scouts and Scout Network members.

The Team assists with various aspects of event co-ordination, from providing traffic control services and marshalling for small Scout events, right up to providing route communications and security co-ordination for large public events such as 'Strollerthon' and the 'Great River Race' in London, as well as 'Scoutabout' and 'Interlink' along with many other events.

The team is open to Explorer Scouts and members of the Scout Network who have completed a training course. Former members in the Radio Team Scout Fellowship support the team.

Using modern VHF transceivers and communications equipment we provide a training structure for young people with opportunities to support the scouting and local communities through offering a service as Marshals, providing Public Address systems, radio communications and in a general support role to event organisers which can form a part of any risk assessment for their event.

A key objective is that the team members (i.e. Explorer Scouts and Network Members) operate the Radios and provide the service while the Fellowship and leaders provide the support. The team membership is therefore constantly changing and new recruits are both needed and welcome.
